Options: TreePad Settings

This category allows you to specify where to store the TreePad settings.

You can store them

(1) as an ini file inside the Windows "Local settings" directory

(2) as an ini file inside the TreePad Lite program directory.

Option (1) is the default option. In this case, the location of the ini file of TreePad Lite is:

"C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Freebyte\TreePadLite"

where is the name that you use to login to Windows.

When option (2) is enabled, the ini file is stored in the same directory as the executable (file) of the TreePad Lite program.
Option (2) is useful when you run TreePad Lite directly off an external drive (such as an USB stick, SD card, etc.).

For more information on running TreePad Lite off an external drive, see also
[node://TreePad Lite Manual/Installing and uninstalling/Run from USB drive: portability]

Tip for Windows 7 and Windows Vista users:

If you enable option(2) on Windows Vista or Windows 7, and suppose TreePad Lite is installed in

"C:\Program Files\TreePadLite4\"

then you might find the TreePad Lite .ini file in:

c:\Users\\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\TreePadLite4\

This is because Windows 7 and Vista are unhappy about an application writing to any subdirectory of "c:\Program files\" and they will mirror the "C:\program files\TreePadLite4" directory to "C:\Users\\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\TreePadLite4\". The application thinks that it writes/reads to/from the program files directory, but actually it writes/reads to/from the "Virtual Store" directory.
